While watching the Grammy’s tonight, I was curious what an indie rock “let’s get it on” style playlist would include. Itunes (link will launch your Itunes) already has one that includes my favorite song ever, “Cars” by Built to Spill.
Their list also includes a couple more songs that I consider very romantic, and hope to play at my wedding one day, but don’t strike me as something that would play in the background of a scene in a quasi-indie film where an earnest teenaged Michael Cera loses his virginity. Just think of that scene in “Donnie Darko” with Joy Division.
So taking a page from Plinky, I give you five songs that would be on my Indie Rock Romance Playlist:
1. “Lover’s Spit” Broken Social Scene
2. “Blindsided” Bon Iver
3. “The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out To Get Us!” Sufjan Stevens
4. “Magic in the Air” Badly Drawn Boy
5. “The Book of Love” The Magnetic Fields
As I spent more time trying to modernize this list to include releases that were less than 4 years old, I got frustrated.
Where’s the hot indie rock make-out music?
um, i just ran to download all those songs. because i realized how embarrassingly behind the times i am. and how seriously unhip i have become in my old age.
i’m still rocking out to justin timberlake, circa 2006.
just kidding.
i mean, kind of. but not really.
wow that is a challenge.
weird that you posted this b/c i had thoughts similar to this while i was in the car tonight. listening to ingrid michealson’s rendition of fools rush in… i thought… “i would dance to this at my wedding” then i realized that would never happen. hahaha.
so maybe i can dance to it at your wedding?? ehhh?
