I’m having a hard time finding my voice when it comes to blogging about my wedding. Probably because there are so many wedding blogs of all shapes and sizes out there already. In the year(s) leading up to our engagement, my Google Reader only stocked the pretty wedding blogs. And I rarely read the content on those blogs. I just focus on the visuals.

Through a series of tweets last week, I stumbled on this post by A Los Angeles Love. It’s basically a punch in the face to my post last week about wedding photography. She discusses what is becoming the standard in wedding photography blog features: slim, attractive Caucasian couples at unique venues having a themed wedding. The lack of diversity in people and types of weddings featured is only feeding the Wedding Industrial Complex.

I needed to read that post. The entire wedding blog industry needed to read that. The last line in my photography post “a photographer can only take beautiful pictures if there is something beautiful to photograph” came straight from a higher profile wedding photographer to me.

I had drank the Kool-aid and didn’t even know it.

I’m adding A Los Angeles Love to my Reader. I’m going to need more than pretty pictures to make July 23 a great day.
